چکیده
In the methods on page 112, we report a “cytological” estimate of 710 Mb based flow cytometry for Melaleuca alternifolia. For clarity, this should have been qualified as “2C” or diploid genome size.

The Yield of Essential Oils in Melaleuca alternifolia (Myrtaceae) Is Regulated through Transcript Abundance of Genes in the MEP Pathway
Medicinal tea tree (Melaleuca alternifolia) leaves contain large amounts of an essential oil, dominated by monoterpenes. Several enzymes of the chloroplastic methylerythritol phosphate (MEP) pathway are hypothesised to act as bottlenecks to the production of monoterpenes. We investigated, whether transcript abundance of genes encoding for enzymes of the MEP pathway were correlated with foliar t...
متن کامل(E)-beta-ocimene and myrcene synthase genes of floral scent biosynthesis in snapdragon: function and expression of three terpene synthase genes of a new terpene synthase subfamily.
Snapdragon flowers emit two monoterpene olefins, myrcene and (E)-beta-ocimene, derived from geranyl diphosphate, in addition to a major phenylpropanoid floral scent component, methylbenzoate. Emission of these monoterpenes is regulated developmentally and follows diurnal rhythms controlled by a circadian clock. Using a functional genomics approach, we have isolated and characterized three close...
متن کاملThe regulation of quantitative variation of foliar terpenes in medicinal tea tree Melaleuca alternifolia
Background Terpenes are important mediators of plant-environment interactions as well as often being economically important. Terpenes are biosynthesized via two spatially separate pathways: the MEP pathway in the plastid, the site of monoterpene biosynthesis and the MVA pathway in the cytosol, the site of sesquiterpene biosynthesis (McGarvey and Croteau 1995; Eisenreich et al. 1998; Rohmer 1999...
متن کاملMelaleuca (Melaleuca alternifolia) essential oil demonstrates tissue-remodeling and metabolism-modulating activities in human skin cells
Melaleuca (Melaleuca alternifolia) essential oil (MEO), commonly known as tea tree oil, is popularly used in skincare products. In the current study, we investigated the biological activity of a commercially available MEO (with terpinen-4-ol as the major active component) in pre-inflamed human dermal fibroblasts, which were designed to simulate chronic inflammation. We analyzed the levels of se...
متن کاملIn vitro antiviral activity of Melaleuca alternifolia essential oil.
AIMS To investigate the in vitro antiviral activity of Melaleuca alternifolia essential oil (TTO) and its main components, terpinen-4-ol, alpha-terpinene, gamma-terpinene, p-cymene, terpinolene and alpha-terpineol. METHODS AND RESULTS The antiviral activity of tested compounds was evaluated against polio type 1, ECHO 9, Coxsackie B1, adeno type 2, herpes simplex (HSV) type 1 and 2 viruses by ...
